Common Sense Goes A Long Way.
Have you every seen a neighborhood that has many similar home designs?
You would think that since the homes are similar in size, stature, and
structure that they would function in the same way. They DO NOT!
For example, you look at a model home with bay windows in the front and back, decked out
nice. The sales guy says they can build the same style home for you around the
corner. Well did you know that around the corner is now facing
East/West instead of North/South. This home will not be as energy
efficient equipped with the same A/C heating unit, so should be
designed differently because it will continuously get direct
sunlight.
Building Green Saves Energy Which Equates To
Dollars.
I see this happen all the time. My 3000 sq ft home
in Mansfield, TX was next door to a 3100 sq ft home. Both homes faced the
same direction, East/West. My neighbors electric bill in August 2006
was over $850, while mine was under $280. The builder probably used the same
A/C heating
equipment, insulation, windows, etc. My neighbor was never offered energy
efficient options, i.e. foam insulation in the walls, Techshield
decking, variable speed air handlers, or solar powered attic fans.
People Who Are Educated Usually Make
Correct Decisions.
I see so many people get in the home of their dreams to
find out they then can't afford to pay the utilities. Energy efficiency is
design, proper sizing of A/C heating units, insulation, direction of
windows, manual and computerized heat loads, and many other factors.
I'm sure you would agree that the cost of energy will only continue to escalate in our lives.
I really feel if you have built a home in the
last few years and it is not a "Green Built" design or is
not Energy Star
compliant, that
your chances of selling that home in the coming years will be very tough. Consumers are
educating themselves on Green Building through the internet and other areas, and the
production builders will have to adhere to national standards. These
standards keep being raised, but most corporations are still only going to
build to the minimum standards they can get away with.
Most Builders and Construction Companies Are Driven Only By Profit.
Brelani Custom Homes is owned by a hands on custom home builder. Paul Seago
as President, oversees all construction. Paul is a graduate from Mansfield
High School and Tarleton State University. His family has been in the
Mansfield, TX area for 5 generations. Working through High School and
College in commercial framing, Paul acquired all the knowledge to
build homes from the ground up with his own two hands, and has done
